How to find the Academy and the nearest parking options.
Coming from Exeter, take the first turning into Sidmouth (by the Bowd). Carry on down this road towards the seafront. This is Station Road, B3176.
At the seafront you will see a long-stay car park on your right, at the junction of Station Road and the Esplanade. EDAA is approximately 4-5 minutes' walk from here.
This is the closest all-day car park to EDAA. It is a private car park, not EDCC. The present cost is £10 all day in the summer.
The easiest walking route is east along the Esplanade, then left at the pedestrian crossing. Walk into the Market Square and you will see Old Fore Street slightly to your right. We are up this road on the right-hand side, opposite the art shop and Costa Coffee.
Look for a wrought-iron gate with a blue surround. Go through the door and up one flight of stairs; we are on the first floor. Unfortunately, we do not have disabled access.
Long-stay, short-stay and free parking around Sidmouth.
Manor Road car park is also a long-stay car park and will take your district parking permit if you have one. EDAA is about ten minutes' walk along the seafront from Manor Road car park.
For short-stay parking, which also takes district parking permits, turn left at the mini roundabout. Drive along the seafront, over the mini roundabout, then turn left just before the Lifeboat Station into Ham Lane.
You will see the large car park on your left. This is a paying short-stay car park for up to four hours. EDAA is approximately 2-3 minutes' walk from here.
In the winter months, the present parking cost is £2 for four hours in EDCC car parks.
In the summer months parking charges are more expensive, presently £6.60 for four hours. Manor Road long-stay car park is cheaper, but is about ten minutes' walk from EDAA.
If you are attending a two-day or longer course, it may be worth getting a month's parking permit from EDCC for Sidmouth. The cost is £12 for one month, plus £2 for each additional East Devon town. Please call EDCC on 01395 571780 to arrange this.
The EDCC car parks close to EDAA are limited to four hours, so you would have to move your car at lunchtime. Manor Road EDCC car park is an all-day car park and is about ten minutes' walk away. You are welcome to park outside the studio to unload materials before going to park.
Nearby Mill Street, Riverside Road and Hillside Road, to the east of the Academy, have free parking. These roads are around five to ten minutes' walk away.
You can also try Glen Road, Cotmaton Road and Bickwell Valley, to the west of the Academy. It is approximately eight to ten minutes' walk from there to EDAA.
At present (March 2026), there is free car parking at the old council offices car park, at the corner of Station Road and Broadway. It is about ten minutes' walk to the studio.
Once parked, head towards the town market place. Turn into Old Fore Street opposite Fields department store.
Old Fore Street is pedestrianised and is the narrow road shown on the map. EDAA is towards the end of Old Fore Street on the right-hand side, opposite the Art Shop and Costa Coffee. Look for a wrought-iron gate with a blue surround. Go through the door and up one flight of stairs.
Get off at The Triangle bus stop, approximately five minutes' walk from EDAA. Walk into town until you reach Market Square, then turn left into Old Fore Street.

Studio equipment, unloading and facilities.
East Devon Art Academy is housed in a light and spacious studio with plenty of storage. It is a dedicated art studio, with tables, studio easels, drawing materials, drawing boards, brushes, clips, masking tape, water pots, collage materials and other materials available to use. This means there is no need to bring heavy equipment with you.
If you are bringing a lot of equipment, you are welcome to drop it off at EDAA first and then park. The studio is usually open from 9.15am. Please let me know if you wish to do this so I can make sure I am there to help you. You can also park outside EDAA to load up at the end of the workshop or course.
Old Fore Street is one way. If driving, you will have to approach from the High Street.
You are welcome to leave your art materials and work in progress at the studio if you wish to avoid bringing things with you every day. Tea and coffee facilities are available. There are plenty of cafés, restaurants and sandwich bars in town if you wish to have lunch out.
